CinemaCon welcomes back the Major Studios
and the film slates to the theatrical convention in 2025.
Next month will kick off a centennial celebration of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s timeless and enduring novel ‘The Great Gatsby’ in a grand soiree in a glitzy Jazz-Age fashion. The Great Gatsby new musical on Broadway hosted a benefit with The New York Public Library, marking the 100th Anniversary of the novel’s publishing in 1925 on Thursday, January 16, 2025.
Meanwhile, The National Association of Theatre Owners (NATO) will honor Cinemark's President and CEO with the Marquee Award during next year’s CinemaCon 2025. The major studios make a return to the biggest theatrical convention, such as Lionsgate, Paramount Pictures, Sony Pictures, Universal Pictures/Focus Features, The Walt Disney Studios, and Warner Bros. Pictures will preview upcoming theatrical releases, alongside Amazon MGM Studios will join the CinemaCon main stage studio presentations.
January/February 2025 releases
A24 ‘A Different Man’ (January 6) is described as a satire that stars Sebastian Stan as an aspiring actor with severe facial disfigurement, but after a testing medical procedure radically alters his looks. The full trailer is live on YouTube.
A Metrograph Pictures release, ‘Gazer’ (Feb 7) explained as neo-noir from first-time filmmakers Ryan J. Sloan and Ariella Mastroianni is about a woman living outside of New Jersey, who takes matters into her own hands.
Additional: ‘Bye Bye Love’ (Jan 17) and ‘This Woman’ (Jan 31) were released at Metrograph in Theater, while ‘A Different Man’ and ‘Gazer’ will arrive at the same location. Also, A24 dropped the trailer for ‘Death of a Unicorn’ which will arrive in Spring 2025. The full trailer is available on YouTube.
Lastly, writing comes in all styles, tones, and professions, and screenwriting is a whole other form, specifically if it’s a comedy. The 1:41 minute teaser opens with Emmy-nominated writer and producer Mindy Kaling addressing the camera: “You’re looking at someone who was told no until I got them to say ‘yes’.”
Subscription Masterclass members will be introduced to Kaling, who will speak about her writing process for creating standout characters, including reference examples from ‘The Office’, ‘Never Have I Ever’, ‘The Mindy Project’, and ‘The Sex Lives of College Girls.’ Her virtual workshop will reveal a guide on how an idea becomes a script or a pilot and how a pilot becomes television.
Kaling shares a story behind one of the scripts she wrote with a friend about fictionalized versions of Ben Affleck and Matt Damon mirror the lives of Kaling and her friend.
